St Edmunds NSCC are a nursery school and children’s centre in Bradford who are committed to providing an outstanding learning environment for young children under the age of 5.
St Edmunds recently launched the ’50 Things to do Before You’re 5’ initiative which focuses on the development of children’s speech, language and communication skills. Each one of the 50 things will be a fun activity for the child to take part in with his or her carer; examples of the 50 things could be going to the seaside, or making a snowman. However, there will be extensive research carried out into each and every activity to identify its link to language and oracy.
We need parents, carers, relatives, early years practitioners, pre-school teachers, health visitors, paediatricians; in fact, anybody who is interested in and wants to support the development of young children from birth to 5. We’ll need to collaborate with those who are interested in getting involved, in order to produce a final list of what those 50 things will look like.
Key things to consider:
- What are those 50 things? If you have an idea, send it in! (for contact details see bottom of page)
- How would you like to access these 50 things? Would you prefer a hard copy i.e leaflet/booklet, printable worksheet or flash cards, or would you rather it be accessible via website/webpage or an app?
Once we’ve launched this initiative we are going to be recruiting ‘Champions’. This role is intended to promote the service, as well as support those who will be accessing it. Watch this space for further information and details on how to apply.
