In this session you will :

Investigate theories around the importance of play

Investigate how play links to wider child development including:

  • brain development
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • communication and language development

Look closely at how play is integral to the whole school ethos at Dixons Allerton Academy and how this links with the research discussed

Observe children learning through play

Observe how Early Years practitioners effectively facilitate and support learning through play

The Importance of Play 2

Aims of Session

In this session you will:

  • Begin to understand the importance of play throughout the whole of childhood and especially in the primary school
  • Develop an awareness of some of the prominent theories of play
  • Begin to develop a pedagogy of how children learn and how to provide a curriculum and environment to support this
  • Understand how play and active learning can continue to be valued and part of learning in KS1 and KS2

Delivery

1 afternoon delivered early September

A reading list will be given which will focus on developing your own knowledge of the importance of play.

  • An opportunity to play and explore
  • An opportunity to see play opportunities in classroom provision
