RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Research and development is an important part of the work of the Teaching School. For us, research and development is best understood as joint practice development between schools and practitioners. R&D is most effective when it is supported by university-based specialists but impacts on classroom practice.

We were funded by the NCTL to take part in the Randomised Control Trial, Closing the Gap, which investigated the effectiveness of classroom interventions in raising the achievement of children in receipt of pupil premium funding. This programme was supported by the Institute of Education in London and CUREE. See the research findings and an explanation of the RCT methodology here.

We also participated in another national research programme into practitioner-led enquiry supported by Manchester Metropolitan University. Our specialist focus was feedback and marking in primary mathematics, the report for which can be read here.
