  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Core Modules

This apprenticeship will cover 5 different Core Modules over the course of 12-15 months. As the course is a rolling programme, you can start your apprenticeship journey at any of our entry points throughout the year. This means that your entry point may be at the start of any of our core modules, but all of the units will be covered throughout the duration of your course. 

Core Module 1

Unit 1 - Child Development
Knowledge of Child Development. Understand the specific needs of learners and use strategies to support all learners to achieve their goals

Unit 2 - Promoting Positive Behaviours
Promote engagement and teach learning behaviours to support the development of independent learners.

Core Module 2

Unit 3 - Keeping Children Safe in Education 
Implement Safeguarding policies and safe practice, including Online Safety, in line with legislation policies and procedures including maintaining confidentiality


Unit 4 - Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the organisation and promote EDI and acceptance of all learners, in line with school policies, including by
challenged stereotyped views, bullying or harassment.

Core Module 3

Unit 5 - Teamworking
Work in partnership and liaise with other professionals, such as the teaching staff, SENDCo or external advisors and parents/carers to support all learners learning.

Core Module 4

Unit 6 - The Curriculum & Technology

Support the development of a stimulating environment and safe learning environment by contributing to the selection and preparation of teaching resources that meet the diverse needs and interests of learners.


Unit 7 - Small Group Teaching and Assessment for Learning

Deliver individual and small group teaching within clearly defined/planned parameters in partnership with the teacher and other professionals.
Contribute to assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording and reporting of learner outcomes and participation as agreed with the teacher.

Unit 8 - Supporting with Enrichment Activities
Support or lead enrichment activities for example visits, out of school activities and in school clubs.
Be able to dissect PREVENT, safeguarding, health & safety legislation, guidance and procedures for breakfast, lunch-time & after school clubs.

Core Module 5

Unit 9 - Reflective Practice and Professional Development
Reflect on their own practice and identify appropriate professional development opportunities with the support of colleagues

End of Practical Period

Gateway & End Point Assessment (EPA)

  • Gateway meeting with End Point Assessor.
  • Revision on all diploma criteria linked to portfolio. 
  • Mocks.

How will you be assessed at the end of the course:

  • Portfolio (Pass or Distinction)
  • Multiple choice quiz
  • 60 minute professional discussion
